Small comment but rather than admins choosing should it not be random draw from ideas suggested here that determines categories can do this live at the club, this removes any bias presuming admins want to play in tournament

    Ideas

Rondel games – games based on rondel mechanic per BGG tag
Ancient games – games with BGG ancient tag

    A couple more categories:

“Second Chance” – Cancelled 2020 tournament games (Alhambra, Lewis and Clark, Stockpile, Clans of Caledonia, Shipyard)

“Animals” – Either an animal themed game, or a game where animals are a main component.

    I’ll start with some categories:

    Economic Game
    Mafia / Gangster Theme

Category suggestion of Train Themed :-D

I was going to suggest “Pick Up & Deliver” – but Train Themed would do.

Another one: there’s a specific mechanism on BGG called “Push Your Luck”, which covers games where you’re predicting/gambling on when the game will end, when the market will crash etc. Always good entertainment value – unless you’re Paul in last night’s game :-)

      • Ian says:

Regarding Push your look would you class a game like “Can’t Stop ” in that. Where you keep rolling dice for an outcome but each time you roll you have a chance of wiping out your progress.

      • Robin says:

I guess so. Though I was really thinking about games like Magnate and Ponzi Scheme, where the crash(es) affect every player. Likewise Stockpile and Bullfrog Goldfield, where the crashes are more localised but still affect multiple players. So maybe the heading should be “Boom & Bust”, or just “Crash!”…
