Games Day

Thank you all very much for attending the Games Day on Sat 16th Oct 2021.

We had about 20 people attending and a bunch of games played that do not get a chance on a normal Thursday night.

Dan, James and Ed spent most of the time upstairs doing a 7 hour game of Liberty or Death. Downstairs we had various games from Eclipse, Churchill and Merchants and Marauders to Fury of Dracula, Merchants Cove and some lighter ones.

Of course we had our Point Salad competition where 2 tables of 6 would start with a top 3 highest going in to the final. Then the final was played around 3pm.

Round 1

  1. Robin – 78
  2. Simon – 72
  3. David K – 60
  4. Ian – 56
  5. Dan B – 50
  6. Keith – 43

  1. Dan – 70
  2. James – 69
  3. Ed – 67
  4. Dave – 65
  5. Paul – 53
  6. John – 49

Final Table

  1. Robin – 86
  2. Ed – 68 (won tie)
  3. James – 68
  4. David K – 58
  5. Dan – 52
  6. Simon – 30

Congratulations to the top 3 who won prizes but especially to Robin who had never played before and won both games he played.

We will tweak the format for the next event as we had feedback the food option was not very clear. This was only confirmed to us quite late but we will clear it up for next time.

So coming soon we will announce the next Games Day but we also have our Xmas day to think about as well as a Secret Santa and details for the 2022 Tournament.

  1. Robin says:

Sorry if I’ve missed it, but could you please publish the date of the next Games Day on here?

  2. James says:

We played Brotherhood and Unity not Liberty or Death!

Brotherhood & Unity is a 2-3 player card driven wargame which depicts the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992-1995 (“Bosnian War”). The game shows all of the major events: from the siege of Sarajevo (shown in separate, detailed map), to the ferocious battles for the Posavina corridore, and desperate defence of the Bosniak enclaves.

Was an excellent game, hard fort by all. Dan never really recovered from the first turn Serbian onslaught by did enough damage to help the Croatians cement their victory after they dominated the south.

Slight rules hiccup with Dan explaining the victory points completely wrong but the result was the same (although it’ll completely alter tactics for the next game I think)

Highly recommend the game for fans of card driven, point to point games or anyone with an interest in the history

  3. Michel says:

It was great to have the time to play a longer game like Churchill, which had been on my want to play list for ages. (BTW, upstairs was Brotherhood and Unity.) As for the food option, I had lasagna with chips and peas for £9 and it was fine.
