Wacky Races - July 2026

Second session for race games this year started of at a sedate pace with 6 players competing in the The Great Balloon Race where we were all trying to get our secretly allocated 3 different coloured hot air balloons first over the finish line. Starting as he meant to go on, Chris T was the first to declare a moral victory as all his 3 balloons had finished, however Ed scored two more total points by actually getting two balloons over the line.

Next up was a much faster-paced 3-lap chariot race Ave Caesar with maximum points going to Kevin S. Whilst David Male's chariot was actually first across the finish line because he had failed to pay his due respect to the Emperor his charioteer was duly executed and thus no points scored.

Third race was Flame Rouge where each player was jockeying for best / poll positions with their rouleur and sprinter cyclists in the peloton(s). A pretty tight race in the end but Chris T pulled off the double in getting both of his cyclists across the line and scoring 10 points. Having exhausted his sprinter David M did however manage to salvage one point by getting one of his cyclists across the finish line - it was by now that a pattern began to emerge of DM literally flogging a dead horse with his racers.

The last 4 rounds of racing took place with our Magical Athletes competing over 2 laps of the Mild Mile and 2 laps of the Wild Wilds tracks with Chris T taking first place in the first 2 rounds. The last 2 rounds introduced the Thrilling Thirds variant (a highly recommended small fan-made expansion - available for a free download from BGG) whereby a card from the unused racers deck determined yet another extra chaotic rule that was in effect for the whole of each lap. We finally allowed Ed to properly win a race in the 3rd lap and Kevin S. scooped 8 points in winning the last lap, however neither was enough to get anywhere near our outright Racing Champion of the night who also managed to dispose of two of his competitors in the last race with his Big Mouth wacky racer, so Congratulations to Chris T.

Good fun was had by all I hope as a result of frustrating opponent racers but especially and memorably

due to David M's charioteer being executed for failing to "AVE CAESAR" !!
